What is our summer internship program?

Pulsar Security’s Pulsar Explore Internship Program entails a summer opportunity for college and high school students interested in technology and cyber security. This year’s internship has offered the class of eight the ability to engage in hands-on learning, interactive mentorship, and to learn about cyber career opportunities.

The program is managed by Peyton Somerville, a Junior Security Engineer at Pulsar Security. Somerville first became a part of the Pulsar team as an intern while attending the University of Massachusetts - Lowell as a Computer Science major. After graduating in May, he has become a full-time employee and is the technical contact for our customers. He manages all Sonar wireless device installations and is on the Vulnerability Assessment and Dark Web teams. Somerville’s continued work at Pulsar Security highlights the future career opportunities and potential for growth and success that arises from participating in the Pulsar Explore Internship Program.

As Peyton Somerville exclaims, “The internship not only provides the foundation to explore one’s curiosity, but also allows tenacious young adults to engage in more advanced cyber security field work.”

What do interns learn?

Summer interns learn a plethora of skills beneficial for a career in technology and cybersecurity. Students will learn cybersecurity risk management, how to identify cyber threats, incident responses to cyber-attacks, and how to design cybersecurity controls to protect organizations. Students will also learn how to investigate data breaches and cyber-attacks and will comprehend the fundamentals of cryptography, cloud security, and network security.

What is the benefit of our internship program?

There are a variety of benefits a student can gain from participating in Pulsar Security’s internship program. The program provides valuable hands-on experiences that allow interns to apply acquired knowledge to real work scenarios, witnessing firsthand the day-to-day job duties they can expect to encounter in cybersecurity. Through the internship, students will explore and acquaint themselves with a career path and field they deem fascinating. Taking on the internship may also help interns decide if the field is right for them. Moreover, Pulsar Security’s internship will allow interns to gain the confidence imperative for entering the working world of technology and cybersecurity.

The invaluable work experience will aid interns in standing out to potential employers, as it proves that they can tackle multiple and advanced cybersecurity responsibilities. The internship allows for feedback from supervisors and members that are established professionals in cybersecurity. Through embracing mistakes, asking questions, and observing, interns will be able to refine and develop their skills.

Pulsar Security’s CTO (Chief Technical Officer), Duane Laflotte states, “At Pulsar Security, the best and brightest in the industry not only protect your businesses with Offensive Security Services, but also guides the next generation of workers to be prepared to make our technologically-dependent world safe for all.”
